Silk Alternative - Viscose Satin

Composition: 100% Viscose -  dyed with 100% chemical free fruit and vegetable dye, then hand-screened.

You’re probably not buying this unless you are EGYPT obsessed and about to travel there or you have been and you want it as a beautiful connection to wear and remember you treasured memories. It was inspired into life by my own travels through Egypt and this is definitely your new TRAVEL ESSENTIAL scarf for EGYPT and can be also be used over and over again for ceremonies, pilgrimages, and to wrap around you and remember your time at ANCIENT KEMET when you return home. Or if you are like me, after a while you just move to Egypt!

The Eye of Horus, also known as the Wedjat, is an ancient Egyptian symbol for protection, royal power, health, and healing. Its meaning comes from the myth where the god Horus lost his left eye in a battle with Set and it was restored by the god Thoth. This restoration symbolizes making things whole, and the healed eye was often painted on boats or worn by Egyptians as amulets for protection

The most beautiful eye of Horus I have seen so far is at the Komombo Temple. A temple that depicts medical instruments and hieroglyphs of birthing and healing arts.

The eye is divided into six parts, which correspond to fractions used to measure grain and are also linked to the six human senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. It was also used in medical contexts for measuring doses and channeling divine balance.

We have always set our intention to use less silk or potentially no silk in the future if we can find an alternative that has a similar look and feel. We were delighted to recently discover and test out this new to market 100% viscose blend. I have tried it on a few friends now without them knowing and told them it’s silk and they didn’t question it! The one small difference that I noticed is that Viscose Satin has slightly more weight than the Silk, but to be honest silk is very delicate so I think this is actually a bonus because it makes the scarf a little stronger and less susceptible to ripping. It’s so gorgeous to wear and has that beautiful shine that silk does! The other two major bonuses are that no animal had to be harmed in order to make this material and the price point for YOU the consumer is significantly less than silk! When we can do better we will and as the designer, in my opinion, this is us making a difference to produce a better fashion outcome to the world.

Each material batch is dyed by hand in batches. As colors are individually mixed each time and the way images appear on various screens differ, please allow that actual colors on receiving your item may vary by 10 -15%. The material is boiled to complete the setting of the color. Therefore, you will experience no color run or shrinkage with this item.

We proudly produce our clothing fairly and under ethical working conditions. :)
